The Elk Grove Garden Club, led by dahlia expert Mary Adams-Wiley, donated their time and expertise to design and plant our heirloom dahlia garden as a community service project. This volunteer project honors Lester Nicolaus (1903-1978), an avid gardener who supplied his family with fresh produce and flowers for three generations. He was particularly proud of his dahlia garden. The Garden Club carefully selected heirloom dahlia varieties to represent the three generations of Nicolaus family members who lived on the dairy, as well as a few modern varieties to add intrique and color. Dahlias come in a multitude of colors, shpaes, and sizes. Thanks to our volunteers, our dahlia garden would make Lester proud.
