Lester Nicolaus (1903-1978) lived his entire life on the dairy. The family's gardener, he tended a plethora of vegetables, flowers, herbs, and an orchard. His niece fondly remebers feasting on his watermelon each summer and his walnuts in autumn. Lester was known locally for his prized collection of dahlias. Members of the Elk Grove Garden Club, led by Mary Adams-Wiley, graciously volunteered to design, plant, and mantain an heirloom dahlia garden in Lester's honor. Careful planning led to the selction of a variety of species representing every decade of Lester's life. Find our beautiful dahlia garden among the raised beds to the south of the farmhouse.
